Check documents for the actual product
For a proposed shipment to a market where CE requirements apply, request documents that identify the actual manufacturer and the equipment being purchased. A photograph of a logo or an unrelated certificate is not enough to establish the conformity of a particular truck.
What to ask for
- The applicable EU Declaration of Conformity.
- Clear identification of the manufacturer and product model.
- Operating instructions appropriate to the destination requirements.
- An explanation of the requirements assessed for that product.
- Clarification of any differences between the quoted configuration and the documents.
Understand what the documents mean
The European Commission explains that manufacturers are responsible for identifying applicable requirements and completing the appropriate conformity procedures before affixing CE marking. The route depends on the product and applicable legislation; not every product follows the same third-party assessment process.

Technical documentation supports the conformity assessment. Buyers can request clarification of the product scope and relevant evidence; that is different from assuming every internal technical document will be supplied with a quotation. See the official technical documentation guidance.
Resolve questions before shipment
If a name, model or configuration does not match, ask for clarification before placing reliance on the document. Importers should confirm their own obligations with an appropriately qualified adviser for the destination market.
